Death and Taxes
Preparing for Life's Certainties

"Certainty? In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes."
Benjamin Franklin

As Ben Franklin said, two things in life are certain, death and taxes. Unfortunately, both of these will definitely happen. The question is, will you be prepared? You can prepare for both with proper life insurance.

Most people are uncomfortable talking about death and will put off the discussion, often until it is too late. And, most everyone will gladly complain about taxes, but few will take the steps necessary to combat them.

To truly understand the impact of taxes, now and after you are gone, you must first look at it from a macro-economic approach. This will give you a broader understanding of how and why you should prepare. Our goal is to ease the stress and anxiety associated with the inevitable by having a solid, defensive approach.

Since most people want to think that "it won't happen to me", they will procrastinate. Death can strike at any moment, so the wise choice is to prepare now. The following list is my personal choice, in order of importance, of the areas that should be prepared for:

  • Salvation

  • Life Insurance

  • Will

  • Funeral

  • Probate

  • Trusts

  • Estate

In order to prepare for these events you will need some teammates. Depending on the size of your estate, you'll want to consider adding the following to your list of allies:

  1. Life Insurance Agent - your life insurance agent may prove to be your most valuable ally while you are alive, and long after your death. A good life insurance agent will share the living benefits of life insurance with you while helping you with a macro-economic plan for achieving your goals.

  2. Tax Attorney - a competent tax attorney will guide you through a sound plan for preparing your estate. And, your last will and testament will be an important component along with a plan for distributing your assets.

  3. CPA - certified public accountants can provide advice for taxes while you are alive. You'll want to choose one that has time for your needs and understands the uses of life insurance and it's living benefits.

If these areas are addressed, then taxes will be of little consequence. By planning you can overcome the anxiety associated with death. Put your plan in action and you can live your life with dignity knowing that you are prepared for the life hereafter and that you will have left this world a better place.
